No need to mention that there's a scare going on down here in Mexico. For the most part, life is the same. Our kids are enjoying 10 days off school and me, well, as mom of the house, I have to think of how to spend those 10 days with very limited things to do and Brent away in Columbia. I stocked up on snacks and praise God, our new Ywam base has a POOL!
The tricky thing with this virus has been how to explain it to the kids without invoking fear into them. Reality is reality and we have to be cautious and wise, which our family and base is doing. But there is also the huge part of trusting God in all this and that is the part that I am determined to get across to the kids. Life is uncertain, but we serve a God we can certainly count on.
They are doing well in handling what's going on and ask the odd question from time to time. You know, the "what if..." questions. "What if" is huge when you're a kid because of all the uncertainty around it. It's like a fog that hangs around that type of question. But if I can give them something solid, like the Truth of who God is, to anchor them down then I will be doing my job as a parent.
I would be lying if I said I didn't have moments where I 'wondered', my very own "what if's". But through it all God has been faithful to guide my thoughts back to Him. No fear reigns in our household. The peace of God is strong. And no chaos will be found here. Unless of course, that includes 2 kids off school and one trying to be home schooled!! (Uh, might be a little chaotic!!)
So for us, living in Mexico, and what the world has now deemed "the epicenter of the virus", life continues one day at a time. Now with a little more precaution and wisdom but coupled with a whole lot of trust and faith in the God we love and serve.
