About Me
Eddie and Kelly Vargas live in Mazatlan, Mexico with their daughter Juliette. They are missionaries with Youth With A Mission Mazatlan.
Originally from Salinas, California, Eddie and Kelly have been married 28 years. Eddie has worked in many different jobs, but the last few years he worked as a house painter and school maintenance worker. Kelly worked as a public school teacher for the last 10 years. The Vargas’ three older sons are married and on their own. Their older daughter Sandra is living in the USA. Eddie and Kelly have been involved in short term missions for the last 9 years. They served primarily in Mexico, but also in Cuba and Honduras. In 2008 they made the move to full-time missionary work.
Eddie oversees the maintenance of the YWAM base in Mazatlan. Eddie makes sure everything is running smoothly and takes care of any problems. He is also a build leader with Homes of Hope. Homes of Hope (HOH) is a mercy ministry of YWAM Mazatlan. HOH partners with local pastors and churches and together they work in struggling communities to build houses for needy families. Kelly iworks as the visiting teams coordinator and the registrar. She plans outreaches for teams that come to Mazatlan. In addition Kelly teaches a Bible study for the YWAM staff girls. Juliette does home school and works at a local coffee shop, the Lonney Bean.

Eddie and Kelly have a heart for Mexico and a desire to disciple young people. They know God has called this generation of young people to rise up and serve Him and be His voice in these latter days. They also have a desire to see God’s Kingdom established in Mexico and to see Mexican youth sent to the nations.

First Baptist Church Midlothian

In March Eddie and Kelly had the privilege of hosting a team from First Baptist Church Midlothian, TX. The team of 26 people came for a week and built 2 houses. Then they spent 2 days vacationing and enjoying the beautiful beaches of Mazatlan.
The team, lead by Pastor Kenny Lowman, was a huge blessing. They worked super hard and did a great job. The houses turned out beautiful and 2 needy families were blessed in an incredible way. Enjoy the pictures below!!!

Night of the Nations

In an effort to share with the local church our passion for the nations and to raise money for the base building fund, YWAM Mazatlan recently had an afternoon of food, culture, music, and celebration. Some of the nations featured were Egypt, South Africa, New Zealand, Italy, Holland, Mexico, Canada, China and the USA. The staff and students displayed country artifacts and prepared different types of food and desserts as well as things like earrings, bookmarks, and other handmade crafts. Many

Summer Teams 2010!

Well, this summer has been pretty busy! So far, we have already had two teams...one team from Melbourne, Florida and another team from Indianapolis, Indiana. The first team was from Melbourne Calvary Chapel, which happens to be the Heather Madsen's home church. Their fearless leaders Julio and Mike, brought a new group of Middle Schoolers to Mazatlan, Mexico to minister in the colonias and do some evangelism at the Dolphins/ Flagpole area. What an amazing group of young people they were! All

Building Strong Foundations...

The coffee and cookies were served, people were seated, and as the call for sharing homework was made, shy whisperings and laughter were heard around the room. It was the third week of meeting together with the married couples of Colonia Sinaloa. Each week the co…

Hope for Haiti

In light of everything that has been going on in Haiti after the earthquake, Haiti has truly been on our hearts. After the hurricanes there in 2008, we sent an outreach team to work with the YWAM bases in the country. They had the opportunity to serve the YWAMers and Haitian people, help with hurricane relief work, and make lasting connections with the people of Haiti. Then, in the May of 2009, we received an outreach team from YWAM Haiti St. Marc that stayed with us for a few weeks. They shared…

Carnaval 2010!

Well, Carnaval is just around the corner and we are getting pumped for another year of celebrating God's love by reaching out to all the party-goers of Mazatlan's annual Carnaval. The festival begins on February 11th and ends on the 16th. There is a lot to plan, so we will keep you posted as it all unfolds. Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare for the event.

Mexico City Outreach

The outreach team in Mexico City has been busy reaching out to the masses in bold and relevant ways. They have seen God's hand at work through the joining of churches uniting together to reach out to the people of their city and they have had the chance to help the Haitian embassy in Mexico after the earthquake in Haiti. They have had opportunities to work in two different high schools where they have been able to go into the classrooms and share all about God and the importance of knowing Him.…
