YWAM Mazatlan

VdeF - FAQ's

  • Will family have contact with interns during both the training and outreach phases?
  • In Mazatlan you will have access to wireless internet most days. On outreach we will need to go to an internet cafe but there will be no phone access (unless you buy a phone card for a public phone). The leaders will have a cell phone for any urgent calls.
  • How much "free time" will the interns get?
  • There will be scheduled free time throughout the internship. Most of it will be a couple hours during the day, each day, except when we are traveling on outreach.
  • Do you have a music standard?
  • YES! We ask that it is something that honors your beliefs. We want people to listen to music that is positive, not negative. Music is a powerful form of media and we ask that you chose wisely when selecting music to bring. You are coming into a vibrant Christian environment-your music should be reflective of that not something else.
  • What would you suggest for wise apparel to bring?
  • For girls - We ask that you be mindful how low your pants, skirts and shorts are on your waist. Bearing too much of your mid-rift will be inappropriate. You may want to throw in a nice skirt with a top/blouse or a dress for church. It is going to be hot so t-shirts, shorts, tank tops are the best but please me mindful of how tight your shirts are. Your swim suit should be a one piece or you can wear a pair of board shorts and a tank top to swim.
For guys – Please no speedos or g-string swim suits.
  • Do you have a dress code? If so, what is it?
  • For girls there is no short shorts or skirts, no short tank tops or t-shirts. No bikinis (the base has a pool and is near the beach). We have this standard because we are a representation of Christ and do not want people we are ministering to or those we are working with to be told any thing else by how we dress. Guys can't have their boxers showing or be shirtless unless swimming.
  • Can you give us details of what you will do in the schools, churches, streets and prisons?
  • Interns will share testimonies, present the gospel through dramas and other tools that we design as a team. We desire the interns to be involved in the process of planning how to share in the schools, churches etc. because we believe that this is part of the internship process.
  • Can you explain how you do street evangelism?
  • We go out in a big group and then break up into teams of 2 or 3. We like to use creative tools to help us reach the people. We have used things like music, shoe shining, surveys, face painting, clowning etc.
  • What kind of food is there?
  • All types of food. Of course Mexican (burritos, tacos, rice, beans) which we will be eating a lot of especially when we go to visit churches and Mexican families. We also serve salads, hamburgers, pastas (American type food) at the base. In Mexico we have all the regular fast food joints, McDonald's, Domino's, Burger King...which we may also eat at on the go during outreach.
  • How secure will we be on outreach?
  • Each location is secure. We are only going into places we have had teams in before and local ministries are in on a regular basis so they are aware of the atmosphere of the areas.
  • What will be the schedule, for training and for outreach?
  • For the first week we will be spending the majority of the days in training/personal preparation meetings. These include worship, prayer, teaching, team building, preparation of personal testimonies and ministry tools. We will also be serving the ministry here by working on the base cleaning cooking etc. The next three weeks will be doing ministry throughout the city of Mazatlan and Mexico.

Summer Teams 2010!

Well, this summer has been pretty busy! So far, we have already had two teams...one team from Melbourne, Florida and another team from Indianapolis, Indiana. The first team was from Melbourne Calvary Chapel, which happens to be the Heather Madsen's home church. Their fearless leaders Julio and Mike, brought a new group of Middle Schoolers to Mazatlan, Mexico to minister in the colonias and do some evangelism at the Dolphins/ Flagpole area. What an amazing group of young people they were! All

Building Strong Foundations...

The coffee and cookies were served, people were seated, and as the call for sharing homework was made, shy whisperings and laughter were heard around the room. It was the third week of meeting together with the married couples of Colonia Sinaloa. Each week the co…

Hope for Haiti

In light of everything that has been going on in Haiti after the earthquake, Haiti has truly been on our hearts. After the hurricanes there in 2008, we sent an outreach team to work with the YWAM bases in the country. They had the opportunity to serve the YWAMers and Haitian people, help with hurricane relief work, and make lasting connections with the people of Haiti. Then, in the May of 2009, we received an outreach team from YWAM Haiti St. Marc that stayed with us for a few weeks. They shared…

Carnaval 2010!

Well, Carnaval is just around the corner and we are getting pumped for another year of celebrating God's love by reaching out to all the party-goers of Mazatlan's annual Carnaval. The festival begins on February 11th and ends on the 16th. There is a lot to plan, so we will keep you posted as it all unfolds. Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare for the event.

Mexico City Outreach

The outreach team in Mexico City has been busy reaching out to the masses in bold and relevant ways. They have seen God's hand at work through the joining of churches uniting together to reach out to the people of their city and they have had the chance to help the Haitian embassy in Mexico after the earthquake in Haiti. They have had opportunities to work in two different high schools where they have been able to go into the classrooms and share all about God and the importance of knowing Him.…
