What is the Capital Campaign?

The Capital Campaign was designed to help us raise the necessary funds for the purchasing of the property as well as the expansion of the facilities. With the vision to grow and see our training programs and ministries multiply, the Capital Campaign plays a key role in enabling us to reach all that God is calling us to do here at YWAM Mazatlan.

Background

Since its re-establishment in 2004, YWAM Mazatlan was operating out of a large rented home. Since that time, more than 40 staff have served six-month to four-year commitments. Additionally, more than 560 people, from Mexico and around the world, have traveled to the base to participate in the short and long-term programs.

Initially, the facility had room for YWAM Mazatlan to grow. However, with four schools and five full-time ministry programs, the facility was bursting at the seams. Even with the addition of bunk beds to the nine sleeping rooms the facility could only accommodate up to 60 participants at a time. With two offices and a single meeting room that accommodated no more than 30 people, the space was maximized to its fullest. The only other meeting space was an outdoor courtyard, which in the 90-degree heat and high humidity of summer could get unbearable.

For students and staff who participate in extended programs of six months or more, this lack of space was difficult to manage. Areas to seek God and quietly reflect were hard to find and office space and gathering rooms were limited. In addition, due to the lack of space, some short-term teams were housed off the base in churches and private homes throughout Mazatlan. This was very inefficient and sometimes had a negative affect on the participants' experience. Even worse, because of the growing demand, short-term teams were turned away due to capacity constraints.

Staff that made a long-term commitment had to find housing near the base because of the lack of space. This increased their living expenses and quickly drained their financial resources, which the staff members are responsible to raise themselves. Additionally, YWAM Mazatlan's ability to recruit and retain staff was impacted by the added logistics of off-site housing issues, such as availability, rising rent prices, and location.

What an amazing group of young people they were! All

Building Strong Foundations...

The coffee and cookies were served, people were seated, and as the call for sharing homework was made, shy whisperings and laughter were heard around the room. It was the third week of meeting together with the married couples of Colonia Sinaloa. Each week the co…

Hope for Haiti

In light of everything that has been going on in Haiti after the earthquake, Haiti has truly been on our hearts. After the hurricanes there in 2008, we sent an outreach team to work with the YWAM bases in the country. They had the opportunity to serve the YWAMers and Haitian people, help with hurricane relief work, and make lasting connections with the people of Haiti. Then, in the May of 2009, we received an outreach team from YWAM Haiti St. Marc that stayed with us for a few weeks. They shared…

Mexico City Outreach

The outreach team in Mexico City has been busy reaching out to the masses in bold and relevant ways. They have seen God's hand at work through the joining of churches uniting together to reach out to the people of their city and they have had the chance to help the Haitian embassy in Mexico after the earthquake in Haiti. They have had opportunities to work in two different high schools where they have been able to go into the classrooms and share all about God and the importance of knowing Him.…
